"The rescue operation was conducted by the Unit-11 of the Mumbai police's crime branch based on the information given by the Interpol on Tuesday afternoon," the police official was quoted as saying in an agency report.
The International Criminal Police Organisation, commonly known as Interpol, is an international organisation facilitating worldwide police cooperation and crime control.
According to a PTI report, the man, originally from Rajasthan, was located and rescued from the Malvani suburb of Mumbai. Interpol had shared his mobile phone number with the Mumbai Police, enabling them to pinpoint his location and swiftly initiate the rescue operation.
The distressing situation stemmed from the man's personal struggles. His mother had been arrested in Mumbai on criminal charges two years ago, and despite his efforts, he was unable to secure her release. The weight of this situation, combined with six months of unemployment, had plunged him into a deep state of depression.
"He has been jobless for the last six months. Since he was not able to secure the release of his mother from a jail, he was under depression. As the thoughts of ending life came to his mind, he started an online search to find ways to commit suicide," an official told PTI.
It was during this difficult period that he turned to the internet for answers, conducting multiple searches on Google with phrases like 'Suicide best way.' These alarming online activities caught the attention of Interpol officials, who promptly alerted the Mumbai Police, expressing concern for the man's safety.
Upon receiving this critical information, the Mumbai Police's Unit-11, part of the crime branch, swung into action. They located the distressed individual in Malvani, a western suburb of Mumbai. After taking him into custody, the police immediately provided him with professional counselling, recognising the importance of addressing his emotional distress.
Following the counselling session, the man was encouraged to seek solace and support from his relatives in the city. This holistic approach aimed to not only save his life but also assist him in navigating the challenges he was facing, particularly concerning his mother's situation.
